The polite manner that came from the new individual surprised Kaya, but she found it much more welcoming than the cynical atmosphere that Morrigan was swimming in. It was probably the first time the vampire was greeted in such a lovely manner by any of the pack members when it came to official business, and she offered the man a soft smile in return, followed quickly by her own chuckle as he politely declined additional refreshments out of respect for his alpha. A shame that Morrigan didn’t think to let this be the type of person to liase with whenever she needed information or cooperation from the bar owner. Before Sai decided to be such a troublemaker, Kaya thoroughly did enjoy his company. Someone with constant good spirits was a rarity, and she had taken delight in being around his good nature, but he lacked respect towards her own personal boundaries which led to the inevitable strain she felt. It didn’t take much to befriend the woman, but once she had found a way to acquire her own sense of freedom out of the years of torment and embarrassment, she was unable to let others have even a fraction of the attempt to treat her the same. An overreaction probably, but at least now she could have the ability to decide when others went too far for her own comfort zone, and not even an alpha of a city pack could take that away from her.
The curtain opened and Kaya looked up as the shifter came in with the requested order, giving the young waitress a wink to try and soothe the young girl’s nerves when she looked down at her boss. Kaya hadn’t missed the earlier snark when Morrigan commented about Kaya’s “pack.” Perhaps these people were in a way… she certainly cared about them enough to try and dissuade the tension her employees felt whenever this alpha made her presence known. And it was enough that the vampire shot a look with a slightly raised eyebrow when the wolf joked about Kaya’s earlier comment. Well, at least she had some sense of humor. That alone was enough to keep her from rolling her eyes as she reached out to grab her own glass to take a drink.
“My dear Tobias, as long as you are a guest in my club, you are just as important as the other goings ons here. But I won’t press the matter.” She leaned back for just a moment, knowing what was about to come. She could feel the rising frustration as Morrigan felt ignored, and while she slightly relished in knowing how she could get under that wolf’s skin, she knew the oncoming strain was going to lash out in some form or another. In a way she couldn’t help but feel a little bad for tugging on the woman’s chains when it came to the business niceties that the vampire had endless years of experience on, while the younger woman was still trying to figure out. Still didn’t keep her from messing around with her limited patience though. For some of the headaches the pack tried to put her through it was a bit deserved, like this conversation that was going to happen.
And there it was. Kaya didn’t look towards Morrigan at first as red eyes watched the amber liquid calm in her glass, features expressionless as the question brought forth an idea. Originally Kaya was only going to ask for a simple task to help ensure both the pack and herself would stay safe, but Morrigan offered the trade… and she certainly did have something that would at the very least be worth bringing up. The alpha wasn’t going to be happy, and neither would the vampire, but she was running out of options. Another sip was taken before she spoke up.
“Unfortunately for both of us, what you’re asking for is a little more complex to warrant such a fast meeting.” Kaya sighed and finally dragged her eyes towards the alpha, setting the glass down on the tabletop. “I trust your assistant knows that this information can be fatal, and shouldn’t be mentioned to anyone who doesn’t have to get involved.” If he wasn’t trustworthy, she doubted the man would be here tonight for such a delicate conversation. Or perhaps Morrigan just didn’t know how dire a situation she had managed find out about. Wasn’t exactly a comforting thought.
“Hopefully your pack understands the different hierarchy of the vampiric social circles. Overseas, it is the royal bloodlines that control most of the communities and have found a way for the most part to keep my kind under control. The Americas are… a little different. It is not royalty that controls, but power. They are usually called the Corporate. Corporate Fangs, Corporate Leeches… what have you. And they survive by the domination of their businesses. This has resulted in old lines being in charge, those who did not grow up under the strict lineage laws our european and middle eastern counterparts demand. Which makes them dangerous and unpredictable.
“I have two requests, Morrigan, before I tell you what’s happening up north. One is simple and can be done tonight, and that is to order your wolves out of New York, and to stay out. If that means we have to have nightly phone calls so you can stay updated, so be it. But you’re playing with dangerous leagues by letting someone snoop around in the affairs of the Elders and Ancients, and they will eventually get caught. I can offer you safer means of communication without risking the future of your pack.”
Kaya kept her stern eyes on the alpha at that point, her face straight and her posture poised as she waited for the alpha’s answer towards the vampire’s request. She wanted the woman to understand how serious she was being, and that if she was going to tell the wolves about the descending warfare that was bound to happen to her species, she wanted trust from the pack before she betrayed her kind’s secrets. Right now Kaya only kept herself in the loop to keep herself safe and to know when she needed to leave to not risk exposure. But it became clear at that point that she was going to have to pick a side, and as long as Morrigan was willing to cooperate, she’d do what she could to protect the wolves.
