Despite all the rambling that was coming out of the nervous man, the positive attitude that went with it was what Aquene was feeding off from, and she was beaming again, congratulating herself for a job well done in turning around this strange encounter in what could hopefully be a really fun evening. She couldn’t stop with her stupid grinning when he added on the possibility of taking a trip out the aquarium as well. This whole start to her afternoon was starting off wonderfully, even with the accident that started it all.
When he finally smiled the girl beamed, nearly glowing in the glee at the final acceptance towards her invitation. She stood there and stared for a moment, drinking in the delight he was giving off. Making people happy was something she lived for. And it was making her all the more delighted at the idea of continuing the cheer for later. After she went home and berated herself for all the stupidity that happened around her today.
His question however made the girl falter for a moment. She was quite okay with a meet up and giving herself a chance back into the social world, but a stranger having access to her life device? Oh, wait, he wanted to give her his number, not the other way around. She chewed on her bottom lip for a moment, then smiled. There would be no harm in that, she supposed. There would be no commitment.
“Sure, and I can also let you get the address to the restaurant.” She walked up to show him the information before taking down his number.
“Is uh, around 4 okay? I know it’s a bit early for food, but I’m afraid I have early work.” She chuckled with yet another blush rising to her cheeks as she scratched at the side of her head. “That way we can also visit the aquarium before it closes!”

"Oh early dinner should be fine, work is work. though, I might even have a light snack beforehand because i gotta feed my body after that workout. Nothing that will spoil dinner though." Fuel for the motor. He wasn't one of those people who ritualistically cooked each meal for the week but he did eat enough for about five people. He'd have to keep that in check tonight though. Nothing like making a first impression by scarfing down 200 dollars worth of lobster. Real attractive. "It's been a while since I've even been to an aquarium. Or, been near any sealife really."
Funny how these things work out, in more ways than one.
He quickly jotted down the address in his phone's notepad after relinquishing his number, and stuffing the phone back in his pocket. Isaiah sheepishly rocked back and forth on his toes like an innocent grade-schooler, unable to put together what he wanted to say next in his head.
"I guess I'll uh... I'll see you later? I'll probably take a really quick shower because I probably smell awful." Boy you are just pinning the tail on the donkey with your suave` nature, Izzy. "If you want, you can call or text me whenever you're ready. I'll let you kinda go at your own pace. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable." At least he was a truthful guy. Letting people go about their lives at their own pace. If he became a part of it, he worked his life around them. Isaiah never wanted to be a focal point or a nuisance that others lose time over. Because to him, that's an awful waste of a day that could be spent doing so many other things. Treat others as you would treat yourself.
Minus the punishing workout routine. He's pretty sure Aquene wouldn't be too keen on that.
He didn't have a car to get in or a bus to catch or anything. He was literally sat there with running gear and no transportation other than his legs. "Well, I just ran my routine to your shop so I guess I'll just, run back home!" The utmost corny and forced laugh escaped his lips and he began to run in place. "I'm super excited by the way." Genuinely. For whatever reason, a lot of the nervousness was beginning to melt away. This could... actually work out. For once. It's been so long since anything like this happened to him.
It was a legitimately good feeling.

Aquene listened with apparently great interest as Isaiah babbled on about his feeding regime, smiling the whole time. Though it faltered slightly as she tried not to chuckle when he mentioned he hadn’t been near sea life in a while. If only that were true! She scratched at her head again, a continuous quirk whenever she felt slightly embarrassed and needed to fidget with her nerves. Hopefully it wasn’t something that the man was picking up. She tended to get embarrassed a lot.
The scratching stopped as he mentioned texting, and she could feel her breath halting for a moment. Her eyes blinked, though offered a tender smile as she looked away with that darn blush that decided it was an excellent time to make its way back onto her cheeks. “If I don’t see you at the restaurant, absolutely.” She said, shuffling a foot as she started to turn, ready to bring all her nervous energy home and embarrass herself further in peace. “But I’ll be right out front waiting for you at four!” Whether he showed up or not, she would still eat there.
“I’m really excited too.” She said, her smile turning genuine thought that blush deepened at the honest reply. She really was excited. It had been a while since someone showed so much interest in her. People were usually always sweet and thoughtful towards her but her tendency to get into trouble kept them from getting into harm’s way. That and she worked some insane hours. She was already considering how good this turnout would be. Getting back to the aquarium today meant she could grab some papers she needed for her research. Oh, wait. She was still standing there smiling like an idiot at Isaiah.
“Heh heh.” She chuckled, scratching her head. No stop that. Just go.
“Well, I need to get going! I’ll see you soon.” It was a goodbye with no grace and she felt that beet red color flushing back to her cheeks. She twirled before setting herself at a brisk pace back to her studio. A cold shower was very much needed now.
—
A few hours had by and Aquene was making her way to the restaurant. She had assumed that some times apart to get her bearing would help with the awkwardness she set for herself, but it turns out it was nearly worse. She spent most of her time fretting and pacing, trying to figure out WHAT she was going to say. And concerning herself over all the things that could go wrong. Like tripping and spilling something on him again. Twice in one day. Oh my gosh, what if she DID spill something twice in one day on this guy? Was fate going to be that cruel? No wait, calm down. That was silly. For one, you would be sitting the whole time. VERY little chance of that. Oh but what if - and the loophole of stress ideas continued in the girl’s brain until she realized she would be late if she didn’t get going.
She had set her bright hair into a loose braid, mainly to keep it in check as it always had a tendency to get in her face when she tried to eat. She replaced her purple dress and leggings with a soft pink shoulder cut dress that ended just above her knees, simple pink flats, and a white purse to complete it all. She probably reminded some people of cotton candy with all the bright colors but the brightness was something that made her happy, so it was worth it.
Aquene very much hoped as she got closer the man would be there waiting for her. If she could avoid having to use his number. Just not yet!

He sat in his car for what seems like forever. He arrived at the designated restaurant about 30 minutes before but he was going through a mental routine over and over and over. Was the suit overkill? Maybe it wasn't enough. It was the nicest thing he owned besides a few polos and some slacks. He was never a stickler for pressed and starched clothing. Shuffling about in his seat before finally clapping his hands down on his thighs and taking a couple deep breaths, he muttered to himself "Okay, Let's do this." His car door swung open and took his keys out of the ignition. They jingled around before being stuffed into his front pocket, the alarm system beeping a shrill note before the car settled by itself, passengerless as Isaiah finally made his way to the restaurant's front door. It shouldn't be too difficult to pick out Aquene had she been arriving soon. Her hair would most likely be the thing he would use to notice her. One thing was for sure, he was hungry. Hopefully that wouldn't play a huge part in his mannerisms because that snack he told her he was going to whip up real quick? Nah, never happened. Isaiah even felt his stomach rebelling against him in an ungodly way. That awful sucking in feeling that went all the way up to his throat. The fact that he was going out on a date probably didn't make the whole stomach situation any better. Be still poor stomach, soon you will be filled with lusciously sweet seafood and biscuits. Or well, hopefully biscuits. That's the best part anyways.
Not but a second before he thought about stuffing his face ungraciously, he noticed the aqua-haired girl walking up as well. Her pink dress setting alight her porcelain skin and her hair done in a very tasteful and cute braid. Isaiah couldn't help but mumble "Wow." to himself as his heart sped up and a nervous gulp of nothing shifted his throat, dryly. He proceeded to walk to her direction to greet her halfway. "Aquene! I'm so glad you made it, you look... So beautiful." Ah, damn. Too strong. In his head that sounded way too strong. But you can't halt sincerity. It just slipped out his mouth because it was the truth. He couldn't even blink his eyes as if he were in the presence of an angel. A moment in time no person would want to miss. He shifted his purple satin tie gently closer to his neck in fear his look became disheveled, fiddling with his pocket square and making sure the two peaks appeared tastefully out his breast pocket. His deep gray suit lay form fitting upon his frame; not loose by any means. He took the time to really do up his hair. I mean, what do you do with so much of it? He even took the time to make sure both sides of his temples were nicely and evenly shaved down while he used product to make the length of it look shined, pulled back tightly along his scalp and roped into a very neat folded bun. Never again would he spend so much time on it.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting." Isaiah's voice became gentle and nuanced. He didn't want her to think he was always a workout freak in stretchy shirts and shorts. He cleaned up quite well, and he definitely wanted to give off a much more formal vibe. He never took himself seriously, a purveyor of a good joke or two. Especially self deprecating. Muscles over brains, et cetera. He was actually kind of relieved that she took the time to doll herself up, you know, the whole overdressing thing he was fretting over. She looked far more beautiful than he could honestly imagine. It's almost like she had this aura of light about her as she approached. It calmed him. Made him feel like everything was going to be okay.

It didn’t take long to spot the towering specimen that was to be her date this evening. She was eternally grateful for choosing to apply a dab of makeup at this point, because seeing him cleaned up, in suit, and hair tied back elegantly made her feel the heat rise to her cheeks. She was certain that was still evidence of a pink flush, but it didn’t stop her from smiling sweetly up at the man. But she also found her hands to start becoming absolutely fidgety. He looked amazing, and somehow appeared more fit in a tight suit. It was also becoming a reminder of how incredibly small she was compared to him.
Aquene’s smile faltered at the bashful feeling squirming inside her at his compliment, and her eyes glanced away. “You look great yourself.” She said almost shyly, scratching at her nose in almost a desperate attempt towards hiding the daring blush that was trying to show itself through her foundation. She was grateful when he broke through the awkwardness of them fawning over each other with a question, and she got the courage to look back up towards him. She shook her head and took a step forward.
“Nope! I just got here. I hope you don’t mind that I already called ahead and place a reservation down so we don’t have to wait long.” Time was precious in Aquene’s universe when she was constantly struggling between work, research, and studying. She was always on the move and it had just become habit to plan ahead, even for a date. She would have to remind herself that she didn’t need to rush while sitting with him.
“Let’s go in?” She offered, pointing with one hand towards the building and the other hand scratching at the side of her head. She didn’t want to keep shifting in place staring at his pretty face. It would make anyone uncomfortable. The girl started to head towards the door and made immediately for the front desk. There was a girl there that she recognized who beamed up at her, then widened her eyes at the HUGE guy that was following her. Woah. She shook her head and looked back towards the brightly colored girl. “Table is ready for you, Aquene! Just follow me.” Aquene smiled towards Isaiah before being led to towards the tables outdoors that overlooked the waters. The waitress took them to a two seater table accompanies by a tiny candle in the center and two waters already waiting to go. She placed their menus down and with a nudge into Aquene’s side, wished them a good meal before heading off.
Aquene chuckled as she sat down. “Sorry. I sort of come here a lot when I have to work late. The staff here have sort of gotten to know me. I hope you don’t mind that I asked for outdoor seating? It’s my favorite part of this place.” She realized she kept talking and promptly stopped there, eyes flitting down towards the menu. It had been ages since she had done the whole dating thing. Hopefully she wasn’t blowing it.

It was almost as if they were playing a game of blush volleyball and no one was getting to the match point. Aquene just attempted a spike when she smacked the blushball in Isaiah's court with the compliment she gave him. She seemed to have things under control however with the reservations. It took quite a load off as they entered the establishment and was greeted by the clerk. With a short walk through the restaurant, they arrived near the water's edge with a picturesque view and a romantically adorned table set for two. The sun even began its descent, setting in the orange harbor skies. Everything seemed so perfect! "Oh it's alright! It's a gorgeous place, i must say." Isaiah said looking out over the bay. "You have great taste. Do you uh, drink? I can order us some wine if you'd like?" His finger trailed down the back of a menu placed on the table before him, stopping at each wine to read it's description and flavors. He was a little bit of a wine drinker. Fancy meals with fancy wines every once in a while, as an accompaniment rather than just drinking for the sake of alcohol.
While Isaiah scanned the menu for possible choices beyond drinks, he took a small sip of the water before playfully twirling the ice that floated gently atop. "Sorry if I'm, a little nervous. It's uh... It's been a while." The need to slink behind the menu like a menu-fort was great, but he resolved himself and cleared his throat before once again, taking a sip of water. As long as he didn't do anything greatly out of line or frankly, stupid, this date would go off without a hitch. There was still the aquarium to visit, but he felt like walking around and looking at sea life would keep his mind busy, occupied with anything that calmed him down.
"This all looks so delicious. What are you thinkin'?" Scallops, oysters on the half shell, mahi mahi... So many choices. Isaiah's mouth began watering just thinking about it.
"So uh, are you from around here?" Okay, okay. Start a conversation off with a simple question, she'll reciprocate and this is how they go right? Hopefully she wouldn't ask him to procure a birth certificate and a social security number. And certainly he didn't want to spout something off that completely made him seem unlikable or someone she couldn't connect with. The fear of botching the date up halfway through and sitting through an awkwardly quiet evening before heading home sad.
It was a real fear, but she seemed so innocent. Invested in this, and caring. She was absolutely gorgeous in her dress and it put him at ease that she'd go through dressing up for this.

It really was a great end to the evening. The sky was blue and the sun had only just started to set, making the harbor bright and colorful. She casted her gaze from her lap towards the water, a small smile on her face as she watched the ripples dance out. It was obvious just how much she really enjoyed the ocean.
Thoughts popped back towards their evening as her companion brought up the possibility of alcohol. Her eyes widened at him at first, and she was nearly about to reject the offer. She didn’t drink. There wasn’t much time to when she was busy studying so much. But this was a date, and it was part of the social aspect of going on a date… and it would probably help a lot with the nerves that kept coursing through her body and making her act out like a fool. Or make it even worse. She considered it a moment. Wine wasn’t the most potent. It should be okay if she just a glass.
“Sure, Isaiah. I’d love some.” She finally replied with, straightening into her chair. He mentioned his own nerves and she laughed brightly, fidgeting her hands. “Take comfort you’re not alone.” She said as a joke, looking down as her blush came back with the little reveal. The girl hardly had time to meet new people. She was so rusty at the whole dating thing it was ridiculous. Aquene was still completely unsure as to why exactly Isaiah had such interest in her after her embarrassing introduction, but if anything, at least this was providing a break in her repeated schedule. It was the first time she came to this restaurant with someone, and she came here a lot…
“Oh, well, the cod’s really good here. It’s local so it’s always fresh.” She piped with. Her unique abilities tended to come through and she knew old fish from new. A bit annoying at times, but it was helpful in finding places that could prepare it well.
“Around here? Oh, no, not at all. I just moved only a few months actually. I recently graduated in Florida and came to Boston for an internship.” She bit her bottom lip with a smile, considering how much she should reveal herself towards this man. At no point did he become a threat towards her, and even acted just as goofy and embraced as she did. Perhaps there was no harm in letting him know a little bit more.
“I’m working at the aquarium with research on their sea horses. More specifically, leafy sea dragons. They’re really quite cute.” She chuckled with a scratch at her head. “It’s been an honor getting to study them more. Seahorses are one of my favorite animals.” She realized at that point how much she had been talking, and wished their waiter would finally make an appearance. She looked down with burning cheeks. Whyyyy couldn’t this get any easier?
“But um… what about you, Isaiah? Are you from Boston?” Please talk for a while, she thought to herself. She needed to focus on making that blush die down before too much blood went through her head.
